The Institute for Financial & Accounting Studies (IFAS) at Xiamen University is the only “985 Project” platform in accounting and finance designated by China’s Ministry of Education. The mission of the IFAS is to conduct original research and internationalized teaching. Since its establishment in 2005, the IFAS has recruited its faculty members from the Ph.D. graduates of research universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. Members of the faculty have published in the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, International Journal of Accounting, Financial Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Advances in Econometrics, and Applied Financial Economics, etc. The institute has internationalized curriculums for both Master’s and doctoral programs in accounting and finance, and regularly invites outside senior scholars, practitioners, and government officials to give lectures or speeches. Master’s graduates either study in doctoral programs in domestic or foreign institutions or work in major companies in the industry. The institute regularly hosts summer schools, doctoral student consortium, and international conferences in accounting and finance. In addition, the institute has year-round enrollment of 1+1 joint master programs in finance and/or accounting with American top universities, such as University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), whose MAS program ranks No.2 in US, and Tulane University, whose MFin program ranks No.4 in US, as well as Massey University in New Zealand, and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT) in Australia.
