Introduction: The talk first introduces collateralized debt obligations (CDO), the financial product underlying the credit crunch, and the financial structure that securitizes them. It then analyzes the case of Northern Rock, the British bank that triggered the first bank run in more than half a century and was later nationalized. Finally, it discusses the causes and the outcomes of the credit crunch and the lessons we should learn from it.
