Introduction:

For over 100 years, Canada has had multiple professional accounting societies, most recently involving three streams toward qualification. In 2011, however, a merger was proposed among these societies which – although it will take four years to complete fruition – has revolutionized and rationalized the organizational structure, the curriculum and the path to qualification for the future of the Canadian accounting profession.

This presentation provides a summary outline of the merger process and the development of a common body of knowledge curriculum with distinct steams and specialties, and discusses in detail the path to completion of the new designation, the CPA – Chartered Professional Accountant.
