Registration Open for 1st JIAR Conference
To be held in Xiamen, China
The Journal of International Accounting Research (JIAR), published by the International Accounting Section, will hold its first journal conference in Xiamen, China from June 14 - 17, 2011. The program is being organized by the International Accounting Section of the AAA and Xiamen University (Center for Accounting Studies, Institute for Financial and Accounting Studies and Department of Accounting), which is also providing financial support for the conference. The Affiliated Association Sponsor is the Accounting Society of China.
The theme of the conference is "IFRS Convergence and Adoption: Challenges and Opportunities." The process of adopting or converting to IFRS creates many obstacles because of significant differences among countries with respect to institutional, legal, economic, and cultural systems. This conference is organized to identify and examine challenges and opportunities arising from the adoption and implementation of IFRS for practitioners and academicians. Its ultimate goal is to deepen understanding and raise awareness of these challenges and opportunities through the sharing of original and rigorous research work that will provide practitioners and regulators with deeper insights.
Xiamen, located on the southeast coast of China in Fujian Province, is famous for its attractive seascape. A major seaport since ancient times, Xiamen means "the gate of a grand mansion" and has long been an important entry point to China.
The pre-conference activities include two workshops on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 14: An early afternoon - IFRS teaching workshop, and a late afternoon IFRS research workshop. You can register for both of these workshops (no additional cost) on the registration form. On June 15 and 16, there will be plenary sessions for the papers being considered for the potential publication in JIAR and concurrent paper sessions. There will also be a couple of panel sessions. On Friday, June 17 there will be an organized tour of Xiamen.
