Huang Xi, male, born in October 1992, is a member of the Communist Party of China. He majors in finance in institute for financial & accounting studies in Xiamen University. Now he is the chairman of Xiamen students' federation and president of Xiamen University Graduate Council. He graduated from Tianjin University and was recommended for admission to Xiamen University for postgraduate studies. Serving as the monitor of the class, being the minister of public relations departure of school sports federation and assistant of school’s financial lab, he won the National Scholarship, Tianjin Municipal People's Government Scholarship, Fuyao Scholarship and was awarded the triple-A student of Tianjin University and gold medal in the ninth challenge Cup students entrepreneurship competition. He has also attend the ninth training course for excellent college students in Fujian Province.
Rigorous decent, humble and easy-going, this was my first impression of Huang Xi. Before the interview, this name has been given much honor and aura. As the first one in IFAS to be president of Graduate Student Union of Xiamen University, he has taken his own unique opinions on the organization of students' work and personal development. In the interview, Huang Xi frequent flashes of humor and talk with confidence and composure, gave the author a lot of inspiration.
Work Conscientiously, Self-control Firstly
"Work is the value of life, the joy of life, but also happiness." Rodin said. Huang Xi is conscientious and enthusiastic in his work, dedicated to organizing more eventful activities for graduate students. "Student work is a talk about the feeling of selfless contribution and we have to devote a lot of personal time to student work but get too little." When it comes to the relationship between postgraduate academic research activities and students work, Huang Xi said, "The prudent choice is tremendously necessary and important. The student work gave me a bigger, higher platform to meet more like-minded colleagues and friends, exercising my ability of organization and coordination which is really essential to us all." Huang Xi believes that the choice between the two, what matters is not your resume, but the development of comprehensive ability and broader range of vision, which are precisely cherished in essence. "Correspondingly, this may sacrifice some entertainment and social time, but it is of significance for student cadres to own a sense of responsibility for the organization and play an exemplary role, as well as care more for all students in our university." It is this dedication consciousness, so that Huang Xi stands on a higher platform, took up a greater responsibility.
When it comes to the issue what kind of quality student cadres should exhibit, I often hear people emphasize on only ability. However, Huang Xi holds that the most important quality of student cadres should be character. In the relatively larger organization with more resources, the student cadres should consider issue on the basis of the organization and hold responsible to the organization, rather than the self-serving. In contrast, the ability can cultivate. In addition, the attitude of regular, enthusiastic and selfless is also indispensable. If student cadres work with utilitarian, they will not get the expected results, but also be counterproductive. Specifically, the student cadres should form correct political literacy under the leadership of the Communist Youth League. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, in order to point out the direction for the group organization to keep pace with the times. the general secretary Xi Jinping put forward the mission for group organization, which is "political, advanced and mass". Student cadres should also be strict with themselves, standing on a certain height to consider the development of the organization to serve the students.
To strive for excellence, to place actions firstly
When asked to assess his own performance for the past year, Huang Xi modestly gave himself a passing score. He admitted that the work in Graduate Council is onerous, especially in the first and second year of Master in which he had a lot of courses to take. He said, at the beginning he had many ideas that he wanted to put into practice, still he was not fully adapted at that time. After one year’s effort, he thought he have basically completed the tasks that he promised, and there still many ongoing improvements.
"Keep improving, constantly rethinking" Huang Xi said with a smile, "I think there are still much work that can be optimized." When it comes to the most valuable wealth that he got from this experience, he felt that the harvest should be the subtle influence that the experience brought to his characteristic.
Over the past year, the platform provided him the opportunity to improve the scope of vision, the pattern may be invisible, but it is indeed the most valuable thing. As the chairman, a role which needs comprehensive abilities, for example, to carefully deal with things, to capture problems, he found that, after a year of exercise, there is a subtle improvement in his ability in dealing issues.
Emotional attachment, Endless exploration
Huang Xi is the first student of IFAS to go to the key post in Graduate Council of Xiamen University. He put forward his own ideas and suggestions for the development of institutional graduate council of IFAS. The graduate council of IFAS was found in 2013, although it has been through 4 years, the organization is still immature. With predecessors’ efforts, several activities and events were held. In the future, Huang Xi pointed out, we can try more activities, such as communication activities and international exchanges etc. In addition, we should actively learn from the experience of other institutions, as well as place ourselves at a appropriate position, so that the graduate council of IFAS can go out, build its own reputation and serve the development of our students.
Christopher Morley said, "there is only one success-- to be able to spend your life in your own way." At the end of the interview, Huang Xi said humbly, I hope the students can think independently, practice diligently, walk their own way. He hoped that his opinions can play the role of reference and help.
