IFAS Graduates Exchange Symposium was held by IFAS Graduate Student Association on March 3, 2018 in Haiyun teaching building. Three graduate students in grade two were invited to share their experiences of studying, working and exchanging with all the first-year students
As the first speaker, Yang Rui gave a speech about her personal experience of her internship. The previous experiences of serving as an intern in different companies enabled her to form a more explicit view of her career outlook and future planning. Recalling job-hunting, she recommended some valid sources providing internship information and mentioned several important considerations in resume writing. Apart from that, she also shared her opinions on differences among vacancies offered by accounting firms, security companies and investment banks, which enlightened the audience profoundly in finding jobs or internships suitable for themselves. “Working as an intern is a process of self-improvement,” she stressed at the end, “When you do it, do it right, and save others from your trouble. It requires dedication to your daily work and to seize every chance to learn from others.”

The next student giving a speech about her understanding of study was Deng Yunzhe. She said that for graduate students, a solid foundation of professional skills would be the cornerstone of success, so it would still be the first priority to listening carefully in classes and improving the studies. After stressing the importance of balancing CPA exams and internships, Deng also talked about the process of making preparations for CPA exams and some interesting stories having happened last summer when she just started her internship.

Afterwards, Wang Mingming shared her two experiences of international exchange when she was an undergraduate and last year respectively, especially the QTEM program at Waseda University in Japan during the first semester of second-year study. ”There were many advantages of taking part in the exchange program, such as widening the horizon and exposing yourself to various cultures. However, some difficulties and problems would also be unavoidable. So it is essential to consider it thoroughly and make a wise choice.” In the speech, Wang introduced some other important information like the requirements of application and credit transferring, which cleared up the confusion of those who were interested in the exchange program.

As the old saying goes, “talking to a wise man for one moment is much better than reading books for ten years.” This symposium benefited first-year students considerably, providing enormous help for them in studying, seeking for internships and preparing for examinations. All the first-year students were greatly encouraged during the two-hours event.
